Get KICKGRID

The newest build is at the top, older ones stay listed below so you can always roll back to a version that worked for your setup. Your license activates any version.

0.2.3 2026-11-02 Latest

    New features

  • PhatFilter's distortion stages now offer all 21 curves. The Classic / Extended switch is gone: one list per stage, Resonators included.
  • Swap stages inside PhatFilter. Each of the three stages sits in its own numbered frame with a Swap to button for the other two. One click and they trade places in the chain.
  • A Filter knob on the PhatFilter card, so you can reach it without opening the editor.
  • Stack on four more modules: Clip Distortion, Waveshaper, Bitcrusher and Fundamental Booster.
  • Every Mix knob is a modulation destination. Pick Mix (dry/wet) in the Mod Matrix and it follows whichever module that row points at.
  • Pre-gain on the EQ. The old Gain is now Post-gain, and Pre-gain feeds the band chain.
  • The scope can hold still. A button at the top left of the waveform locks it to your DAW’s beat grid, one, two or four beats wide, so a repeating kick is redrawn in the same spot instead of scrolling past, and turning a knob reshapes it where it stands. 1x is the new default; FREE is the old scrolling view, and the scope falls back to it whenever the transport is stopped.

  • Fixes

  • Ctrl-Z / Cmd-Z now covers everything. Moving a card, dropping a module onto a cable, any knob: all of it undoes and redoes. Your view and window size stay out of it, where they belong.
  • An EQ Bell no longer snaps to a point. Opening Q on a band with a lot of gain used to jump; the shape now changes gradually all the way.
  • Placing an EQ point and then turning Q no longer throws the band to 0 Hz at full gain.
  • The EQ's dashed Mix preview carries the Offset too, so the points you placed stay where you put them.
  • PhatFilter's Bandpass Low / High are now Peak 1 and Peak 2, which is what they always were, and each resonance now follows its own peak instead of swapping when you cross them over.
  • Long card names no longer run into the buttons in the card's title bar.

  • Lighter on memory

  • We've worked on optimizing KICKGRID in terms of memory usage. An empty patch went from 549 MB to 291 MB per instance.
  • Delay, Advanced Reverb and Sample Delay only claim their buffers once you actually place one. Nothing to set, nothing to hear.
  • Stack now goes to 8 instead of 16, and the Advanced EQ holds 12 bands instead of 16. Both ceilings cost memory in all 64 module slots at once, whether you use them or not. We measured what every change actually saved and stopped where the next one would have cost real functionality for little in return. Halving Stack again, for example, buys 14 MB, so we left it alone.
  • Reverser and Mixer are gone. Both were already out of the palette and were never going to make 1.0.
  • The window now tops out at 3440x1440 instead of 3840x1600, which is the widest common ultrawide and keeps a maximised window cheaper.
Coming soon The installers for 0.2.3 aren’t up yet. 0.2.2 below is the current download.
0.2.2 2026-10-26

    New features

  • Two machines per licence. Your licence now activates on two computers at the same time instead of one.
  • Manage your licence yourself. Sign in at kickgrid.nl/account with your purchase email and free up a machine slot without having to contact us.
  • New module: Pitch Shift. Shifts whatever reaches it up or down by two octaves while keeping the length. Built for punches and tails, with a Window control that trades transient bite against accuracy on deep bass.
  • New module: Fundamental Booster. One EQ point set by note instead of by frequency, from C0 to B2. Three knobs for when you just want to lean on a kick's fundamental.
  • New EQ band type: M-Resonator. A peak on the band's own frequency plus a harmonic series below and above it, with Range Low, Range High and Regular / Even / Odd spacing.
  • A piano strip under the EQ curve. It shows which note every band sits on, and clicking or dragging along it moves the selected band from note to note.
  • Type a note into a Freq field. “C4” works just as well as “261.63”.
  • Easy EQ's outer bands take more types. The low band can be a Low shelf, a Bell or a High pass; the high band a High shelf, a Bell or a Low pass.
  • Swap button on every module card. Click it, then click another card, and the two trade places in the chain without touching your cables.
  • Second Mac plug-in: KICKGRID FX. Logic only lists a MIDI-taking effect in the instrument slot, so the Mac download now also contains KICKGRID FX.component, the same plug-in without MIDI input, which Logic shows in the ordinary Audio FX slot. Note triggering is inert in that one: Sample’s MIDI Trigger, Note Trigger on the envelopes, AutoFilter’s Note mode, the drag-to-DAW capture and the Sub Generator all need MIDI, so reach for the regular KICKGRID when you want those. One activation and one preset library cover both.
  • Graphics engine setting. In the Help dialog, in case the KICKGRID window flickers on your machine. On-board Intel graphics is the usual reason.

  • Fixes

  • An EQ cut no longer came out as a boost. At a narrow Q with a lot of gain, a Bell could land on the wrong side of zero. Slope also squares the band off again at wider settings instead of only narrowing it.
  • The Pitch Envelope lands on the right pitch. It now uses the new pitch engine, so a held offset is the offset you dialled.
  • The spectrum analyser reaches 20 Hz. It used to stop at about 47 Hz, which is above a lot of what a kick is made of.
  • Curves are drawn accurately at high Q and low frequencies. A resonant peak below 40 Hz was drawn up to 9 dB too low, in both the EQ and the filters.
  • Dual Filter: Resonator Even/Odd and Diode LP drew as a plain lowpass. They now show what they actually do.
  • Scrolling a knob no longer drags the canvas with it.
  • A revoked serial number says so. It used to report “invalid serial”, which read like a typo.

  • Improvements

  • Samples travel with your presets. A loaded sample is copied into a KICKGRID library, so a preset keeps working after you move files around, and a preset bank carries its samples with it. A sample that has gone missing now says so on the card instead of playing silence.
  • The sampler's pitch range doubled to two octaves either way.
  • Adjusting an EQ's Mix shows a second curve with what you are left with at that mix level, while the points stay where you put them.
  • The EQ graph gained a labelled grid, named frequency zones along the top (Sub, Low, Low-Mid and so on) and a filled response curve.
  • A readout at the top right of the EQ shows the selected band's frequency and its note while you drag it.
  • M-Shape's Low and High knobs are now called Out and In, after the outer and inner pairs of peaks they actually control.
  • The top bar and the panels inside every module editor were restyled to match.
Windows .exe installer Mac (both ARM and Intel) .zip file
How to install on Mac
  1. Unzip, then copy the plug-in into the system folder (Finder: Cmd + Shift + G, paste the path, drag the file in):
    Logic / GarageBand → /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components (KICKGRID.component)
    Logic’s Audio FX slot → /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components (KICKGRID FX.component)
    Other DAWs → /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3 (KICKGRID.vst3)
Both .component files can live side by side, and they share your activation and your presets.
  2. This build isn’t Apple-signed yet, so clear the quarantine flag once in Terminal (run the line for each one you installed):
    sudo xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/KICKGRID.component"
    sudo xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/KICKGRID FX.component"
    sudo xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/KICKGRID.vst3"
  3. Restart your DAW. (Logic: rescan in Plug-in Manager if KICKGRID doesn’t appear.)

The full step-by-step guide is in the README inside the .zip. Signed installers (no Terminal step) are planned for the 1.0 release.

0.2.1 2026-10-14

    New features

  • New module: Sub Generator. A sub sine tuned to the note you play, for as long as you hold it. Full ADSR, Tune in cents, and a Movement control so it doesn't sound like a test tone. The card draws the waveform live.
  • New preset browser. The Browse button opens your folders, their presets and the selected preset's details in one view. Search covers name, artist, genre and tags; the arrow keys audition a folder.
  • Presets store Artist, Genre, Tags and Notes. All of it searchable in the browser.
  • Folders replace banks. Presets now live in real folders on disk. Your existing presets and favourites move over automatically; .kgrid-bank files still import and export.
  • Audio Unit (AU) build for macOS, so KICKGRID appears in Logic Pro and GarageBand. The Mac download contains both formats.
  • AutoFilter: separate Env and LFO depths for Cutoff and Reso. Four depths instead of two, all available in the Mod Matrix.
  • AutoFilter shows where the envelope ends up: a static → 1320 Hz readout under Cutoff and Reso.

  • Improvements

  • The zoom dropdown now also goes down to 75% and 85%. At 100% the interface needs 1280x925 pixels, which does not fit a 13-inch laptop screen.
  • The MIDI mode dropdown is now a Note Trigger On/Bypass switch. Bypass is the state that lights up, because that's the one worth noticing.
  • PhatFilter: the Range knob now also drives Resonator, Resonator Even and Resonator Odd. Reso is greyed out on those three, since Range took its job.
  • AutoFilter's Cutoff readout shows the value you dialled in instead of chasing the live sweep.
  • AutoFilter's slope buttons (6/12/18/24 dB) moved under the filter type buttons instead of beside them.

  • Fixes

  • Fixed the interface showing only its top-left corner when a host gives the plug-in window less room than the layout needs, as Logic's Audio FX slot does. It now scales down to fit whatever room it gets.
  • Fixed the window reopening bigger than the screen when the project was last saved on a larger display.
  • Fixed the window's maximum size losing its own height cap, which made resizing jump around on macOS.
  • Fixed Reverb and Advanced Reverb squealing when you changed Mode. Both now clear their tail and fade the wet back in over 10 ms.
  • Fixed a preset being able to switch your MIDI off: Note Trigger is no longer saved inside presets.
  • Fixed cables and connector dots drawing on top of a card stacked in front of them. Both now stop at its edge.
  • Fixed opening a second EQ snapping a band in the first one back, as if it had been undone. Dragging a control in one module and then opening another module's editor no longer writes the second module's value into the first.
  • Fixed clicking one EQ card nudging a band on a different, overlapping EQ card.
  • Fixed Note Trigger envelopes not restarting on every note. A note overlapping a held one used to leave the envelope flat; now every note starts from zero.
  • Fixed note triggering dying after the first pass of a loop. A held-note count was being cleared a block too late, cutting the note that had just started the new pass.
  • Fixed a preset's sample playing the moment you loaded it. A MIDI Trigger sample stays silent until a real note.
  • Fixed loading a preset leaving you inside a Group's tab. The canvas jumps back to Main.
  • Fixed AutoFilter's Note trigger doing nothing on overlapping notes. Retrigger now decides how hard a note restarts the envelope, not whether it restarts at all.
  • Fixed the Mod Matrix listing EQ bands that don't exist, such as band 6 on a 3-band Easy EQ.

0.2.0 2026-10-12

    New features

  • Dual Filter: a Mix knob per filter, plus Swap. A and B each get their own dry/wet, and Swap exchanges every A/B setting in one click.
  • A MIDI mode dropdown beside the Mod Matrix's MIDI lamp: follow whatever MIDI the host sends this instance, or ignore it entirely.
  • Every full-window editor can be dragged by its title bar, so it no longer has to sit centre-screen. It reopens centred.
  • AutoFilter's envelope can be gated by MIDI instead of audio level. Free is the original follower; Note gates straight off note-on/note-off, and Threshold greys out.
  • A Pitch knob on Sample, -12 to +12 semitones, with cubic interpolation so repitched one-shots stay crisp instead of smearing.
  • New module: Detuner. Stacks up to 8 detuned copies of the source for unison thickening, with Voices, Spread and Width.
  • Ctrl+click the Spectrum to solo one frequency. Drag to sweep it, scroll to sharpen it, or scroll the other way to flip it into a notch.
  • A Freeze Peak button on the Spectrum. Holds the highest level each frequency reached, so you see a whole kick's peak shape instead of one instant.

  • Improvements

  • Improved the reliability and security of license activation.
  • A patch cable turns red at 0%, so a module that is wired in but passing nothing is obvious at a glance.
  • AutoFilter's Cutoff knob shows the live swept frequency, not just the value you dialled in.
  • AutoFilter's card gained a Reso quick-knob.
  • Every Off/On switch is now one button showing its current state, instead of two labels side by side.
  • The Dry/Effect and Fatness/Spread/Env Amt/LFO Amt bars are flat rectangles now, matching the rest of the interface.
  • Dual Filter's Width knob now also works on Low Pass/High Pass (slope) and Peak (Q), not just Bandpass.
  • Dual Filter's Routing panel lost a duplicate label, and both its switches are bigger.
  • Bitcrusher's Preamp/Mix/Output knobs are noticeably bigger.
  • Fixed every type-a-value dialog ignoring Enter. You had to click OK by hand.
  • Fixed MIDI Bypass leaving a drag-capture recording running in the background when a note was already held.
  • Fixed Dual Filter's card Mix knob not moving with the editor's own Mix knob.
  • Fixed Dual Filter's Mix knob in the Routing panel being smaller than every other knob.

0.1.2 2026-09-24

    New features

  • New module: Bitcrusher. Preamp, a bit-depth Quantizer with Dither, a Resampler with Jitter and anti-alias filters, a tone Filter stage and Master output, in one editor.
  • Comb+/-, Flanger+/- and Phaser+/- filter types, in Filter, Dual Filter and PhatFilter alike. A new Range control stacks 12 to 96 poles; + resonates, - carves out a hollow.
  • New EQ band type: M-Shape. Four mirrored peaks, an outer pair on Low Gain and an inner pair on High Gain, for that twin-peak silhouette.
  • Advanced Compressor, alongside the unchanged Easy Compressor. Knee, a Peak/RMS detector, Ratio up to 1:30, In/Out scopes with the transfer curve between them, and an OTT mode.
  • Right-click the empty canvas for a quick-add search panel. Type to filter every module by name, or pick from Recent and Favorites.

  • Improvements

  • Dual Filter and PhatFilter now offer the same full filter type list as the Filter module, instead of a shorter subset each.
  • The Filter module's card now carries the same yellow filter-family colour as Dual Filter, AutoFilter and PhatFilter.
  • Dual Filter's Width and Range knobs grey out when the selected filter type doesn't use them.
  • PhatFilter's Filter type knob is now right-clickable for a quick type picker, like every other Type knob.
  • Filter Type, Distortion Curve and the Dual Filter/PhatFilter type lists now browse from subtle to extreme instead of a scattered order.
  • Comb+/-, Phaser+/- and Flanger+/- reset their resonance on every MIDI note, so they can't ring on across repeated hits.
  • Band Split now outputs Low/Mid/High at once on three colour-coded ports, instead of one selectable band.
  • EQ band slope goes up to 96 dB/oct (was 24) and applies to every band type. On Bell and Shelf it is a real slope: 6 dB/oct a soft hill, 96 a flat-topped block.
  • EQ Q range extended to 100 (was 24), for a much sharper peak or notch.
  • Easy EQ gained the Offset knob that shifts all three bands at once; it used to be Advanced EQ only.
  • The EQ editor's per-band controls are real knobs and dropdowns now, with Advanced EQ's bands in a scrollable sidebar and Easy EQ's in blocks under the curve.
  • Advanced EQ: every band has a bypass button, so you can A/B one band without removing it.
  • The EQ editor's spectrum can show the incoming signal, the post-EQ result, or both at once.
  • Both compressor cards show a live Threshold and gain-reduction meter; OTT mode shows its own Low/Mid/High.
  • Cable percentages and every Hz/percentage knob read and snap as whole numbers now, and hovering a cable's dot shows its live percentage.
  • The Maximize button is now Fit to Screen, and no longer sometimes did nothing on multi-monitor setups.
  • Removed the top-bar A/B compare button. Use History and pinned snapshots instead.
  • Fixed PhatFilter's Range knob rendering outside the Filter panel.
  • Fixed Comb+/- and Flanger+/- spiking into a runaway high-end peak at larger Range values.
  • Fixed Phaser+ and Phaser- resonating at unrelated frequencies instead of mirroring each other.
  • Fixed an extreme-Q cut on a Bell band flipping into a boost.

0.1.1 2026-09-22

    New features

  • New module: Group. One card that opens a canvas of its own, with a tab strip at the top of the window to jump between Main and your groups. Group Out carries its own Gain and Mix.
  • Drag-to-modulate. Drag a Macro, ENV, LFO or X-Y axis straight onto any knob to wire up a Mod Matrix row.
  • New module: Pitch Envelope. A pitch shifter whose transposition follows a hand-drawn curve, free-running or one-shot per MIDI note.
  • New module: Advanced Reverb. Chamber/Room/Hall/Space modes with Depth, Pre-Delay, Width and dedicated High Pass/Low Pass, in its own editor.
  • Drawable envelopes on Sample. Shape amplitude and pitch across a one-shot the same way you draw a Waveshaper curve.
  • Resonator curves on plain Distortion (Resonator, Even and Odd), plus a Frequency knob and a visible Blend knob for every curve's internal mix.
  • More filter types and distortion curves: 18 filter types and 21 curves in total.
  • 64 module slots, up from 32.
  • Drag a module straight onto a cable to splice it into the chain there, from the palette or from an unwired card.
  • Move to new group. Right-click Main in the tab strip to sweep your whole patch into a fresh Group, wired exactly as it was.

  • Improvements

  • EQ is its own category now, with its own Wet and Stack controls and Resonator Even/Odd filter types.
  • Multiband is now Band Split: isolate the low, mid or high band instead of always summing all three.
  • Mod Matrix Amount is properly headroom-relative everywhere.
  • History moved under Notes in the right-hand panel. Entries name the module and parameter that changed, and a pinned snapshot restores as an undoable step instead of wiping your history.
  • Volume Shaper, Phaser, Flanger and Reverser start tempo-synced, and their curve editors open in point-editing mode with a Freeze button and a live Hz readout.
  • X-Y pad axis values are click-and-drag now, and Transient Shaper and Pitch Envelope both gained a Free/Note retrigger toggle.
  • Both Reverb and Advanced Reverb gained a Free/Note toggle. Note clears the tail on every hit, so a fast kick never rings into its own previous tail.
  • Each dock panel has its own hide/show tab on its edge, and remembers which panels you had open.
  • Right-click a module > Duplicate clones it with all its settings, curves and loaded audio.
  • Every module with a full editor has a labelled Edit button instead of the small pencil icon.
  • Hover any card icon or panel toggle for a tooltip.
  • The plugin identifies itself as KICKGRID in your DAW's plugin list, not "Kickgrid".
  • The editor window resizes much wider (up to 4K), and its background fills the extra space.
  • The top bar shows Modules: x/64, so your budget is visible at a glance.
  • A palette click always places the new card inside your current view instead of off-screen.
  • Removing a module resets that slot to default, so a new module there never inherits old settings.
  • Various fixes: canvas pan/scroll, click-to-front card ordering, knob dial rings, an alphabetised palette and type menus, and Notes no longer stealing keyboard focus.
